Controlling KMPlayer With The Hauppage Remote

One of the nice features of Windows 7 is the media center which allows for remote control viewing of video files. But not everyone has it, especially most XP users.

KMPLayer is one of the best video players but it doesn’t normally allow for remote control. However, for those with Hauppage remotes it’s very easy to add remote control functions to KMPlayer.

Find the file "irremote.ini" in the Windows directory. Make a copy then edit the old file.

Under

[Applications]

add:

Feel free to modify the commands as you like. I’ve set up the channel button so that it moves to the next file and the fast forward, rewind, skip forward and skip backwards buttons to move in 15 second and 5 second increments. The numbers will change the display mode, including the ability to switch to full screen. Of course with KMPlayer you can modify commands within the program as well so you may want to fiddle a little with all the settings in both programs until you get something you like. Just remember that whatever you program into the irremote.ini file must correspond with the keyboard settings in the KMPlayer program. So if you’ve changed those settings you’ll need to change the irremote settings to match up.

Go into the Hauppage menu from the start menu and find "restart IRRemote" and run it. It should find your new codes. Now run KMPlayer and try them out. If everything works out right you’ll be able to watch your video files with the same ease as watching them on a DVR.
